Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E Major, Op. 95 “New World”

Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E Major, Op. 95 “New World” In-Person / Online

A Music Lesson With Prof. Jeffrey Norwood.

Despite its inescapable nickname, this was not an “American” symphony, but rather a symphony “from the New World.” Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) was deeply inspired by American musical sources in composing it. Dvorak was a passionate Czech whose music transcended national boundaries and, indeed, crossed the world. Dvorak is a wellspring of melody, which joy and anguish in equal measure. Yet, even if anguished, the music has a fundamental vitality. There is a lot you may not know about the origins, inspirations, and influences when it comes to this masterpiece by Dvorak.
