Sixties Surreal

Sixties Surreal Online

An art talk with Prof. Mary Vahey.

Sixties Surreal, appearing at the Whitney Museum of American Art this fall, is a scholarly reappraisal of American art from 1958 to 1972. It focuses on the era’s most fundamental, if under-recognized, aesthetic current—an efflorescence of psychosexual, fantastical, and revolutionary tendencies. Among the art examined will be works by Diane Arbus, Lee Bontecou, Franklin Williams, Nancy Grossman, David Hammons, Yayoi Kusama, Romare Bearden, and Louise Bourgeois.

Zoom-only presentation.
